Hilda Frieda Holtz was born June 17, 1909 in Onslow, Iowa, daughter of
William C. Holtz and Emilie S. (Buchholtz) Holtz. She attended school in
Onslow until her senior year when they moved to Wyoming.
She graduated in May 1927. She was baptized August 1, 1909 and her confirmation was April 27, 1924. Hilda attended Business College in Cedar Rapids. On March 4, 1930, Hilda married Raymond Huggans at Zion.
They lived their entire married life in Wyoming. Raymond died January 19, 1991, less than a year after they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Hilda worked for many years as a relief telephone operator for the Wyoming Telephone Company. In her youth she was active in the Sunday school and Luther League and later in Women of Zion. She had served as organist,
Sunday school teacher as well as positions in the women’s organization.
Besides helping her husband with his work by keeping books, she enjoyed
gardening, especially her flower garden. Over the years she baby sat a
number of the neighborhood children.

She is survived by daughters, Janice Fischer of Frisco, Texas, and
Mary (Charles) Burns of Cedar Rapids;
4 grandchildren, Cheryl Burns, Charles (Luann) Burns,
Russell (Katherine) Fischer, and Nancy (William) Brown; &
3 great-grandchildren; Casey and Chelsea Burns and Alex Brown.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers,
and a son-in-law.

Hilda F. Huggans, 100, of Wyoming, Iowa, died Saturday, June 20, 2009,
at the Anamosa Care Center in Anamosa.
