Robert B. Wylie was born January 3, 1933, in Iowa City, Iowa, son of Harry and Alice (Green) Wylie. He was raised on a farm near Andrew. He married Beverly Daniels on April 7, 1956 in Bellevue, Iowa. They raised two sons James and Joel. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He did construction and concrete work and worked at Caterpillar in Mt. Joy for a number of years.

Bob was a member of the O’Connell-Regenwether VFW Post 3633 of Maquoketa. He enjoyed building bird houses, working outside planting trees, flowers and different plants, exercising and weight lifting. He loved the woods and timber, dancing and country music. Bob enjoyed helping others and would always be right there to help someone do a job when asked. He also did a lot of volunteer work and helped clean up public parks. Bob is well known for wearing his cowboy hats and digging in the dirt planting plants so much that his wife, Beverly gave him the nickname “Gopher”.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Wylie, one son, James (Kathy) Wylie, 4 grandchildren, Joseph & Andrew Rambousek & Emma & Lance Wylie, and his mother, Alice (Green) Lingel, all of Maquoketa. He was preceded in death by his father and a son, Joel, who was killed in a car accident on December 21, 2002.

Robert B. “Bob” Wylie, 76, of Maquoketa and formerly of Andrew, died Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at his home.
