Colleen D. Schmidt was born December 17, 1924, in Lost Nation, Iowa,
the daughter of Leon Henry and Grace Rosamond (Kammer) Schmidt.
She graduated from Lost Nation High School in 1942.
She married Howard Warren Smith on October 27, 1942, in Kahoka, Missouri.
He died on April 22, 1998.
She was a homemaker and worked at the Fish & Tackle in Maquoketa,
and was head cook at the Lost Nation Community School for 10 years.
She also worked the concessions at the 61 Drive Inn Theater in Maquoketa.
She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Lost Nation. She enjoyed
writing for the Lost Nation Scoop and the Maquoketa Sentinel Press and working
with her church circles. Her family was most important to her.

Colleen is survived by her 6 children, Victoria (Dave) Maley of Marion,
William (Marsha) Smith of Clinton,
Kenneth (Alisa) Smith of Maquoketa,
Denise Owens of Marion, (Dan Owens) of Sioux City,
Daniel (Lisa) Smith of Maquoketa, and
John Smith of Long Grove;
13 grandchildren & 5 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one son, Dennis in 1963,
and one sister, Muriel Betts.

Colleen D. Smith, 84, of Lost Nation, Iowa, died Sunday, August 9, 2009,
at Crest View Acres in Marion, Iowa.
