Loyd H. Westphal was born September 2, 1929 in Monticello, Iowa, the son of Herbert Marvin & Emily Annabelle (Eggers) Westphal. He graduated from Onslow High School in 1947 and then attended Iowa State University. He served in the U.S. Army from September 18, 1951 to August 24, 1953. He farmed most of his life and worked for Adolph Coors Brewery in Golden, Colorado, for 10 years. He was a member of the Zion American Lutheran Church, Wyoming American Legion Post #259, and in earlier years, a member of the Masonic Lodge of Onslow.

Loyd is survived by his children, Kenneth (Sheilah Holland) Westphal of Anamosa, Kirk (Cheryl) Westphal of Wyoming, Michael (Cindy) Westphal of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Brian (Elda) Westphal of Lisbon & Jeffrey (Karen) Westphal of Chicago, Illinois; 17 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nancy Chaplin of Louisville, Kentucky and Carol (Robert) Streeper of Marion; and one brother, Richard (Elaine) Westphal of Waterloo, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Loyd H. Westphal, 79, of Onslow, Iowa, died Saturday, August 15, 2009, at Hallmark Care Center in Mt. Vernon, Iowa.
