George Michael Griffin was born June 15, 1914, in Waterville, Ohio, son of Frank Leonard and Eva May (Frazier) Griffin. He married Leone Amanda Albon on January 15, 1935, in Holland, Ohio. Together they raised six children. She died on October 16, 1981. He worked in sales and management for Northern Propane Gas for 6 years and Phillips Petroleum Company for 33 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Maquoketa Masonic Lodge Helion #36, Scottish Rites and York Rites in Clinton and KAABA Shrine in Davenport. He was a former member of the Maquoketa Rotary Club and served on the Maquoketa City Council for 13 years. George loved helping other people and dedicated his life to helping others. He served on the boards for the Maquoketa Senior Center, Swiss Valley Area Agency on Aging, and Operation New View for 18 years. In earlier years he was an avid fisherman, enjoyed bowling and golfing, cooking, loved potlucks, surprise visits from family and friends, reading, and more than anything, his beloved family.

George is survived by his children, Janice Jackson, Mara (Chris) Nissen, Lisa Griffin & Dawn (Gordon) Gardner, all of Maquoketa; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Griffin of Berwick, Pennsylvania; 10 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 11 step great-grandchildren & 2 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, two sons, George Jr. on April 12, 2005 and Neil on September 3, 2005, one grandchild, Drew, one step grandchild, Dustin, two brothers and five sisters.

George M. Griffin, 95, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died Sunday evening, September 6, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, Iowa.
