Shirley Rose Bickford was born February 2, 1930, in Maquoketa, Iowa,
to Harlan and Elsie Mae (Edwards) Bickford. She graduated from
Maquoketa High School in 1947. She married Louis "Bud" Eckelberg
on June 8, 1947 in Preston, Iowa.
She was a clerk at Skogmos and Gambles in Maquoketa, and was a
bookkeeper and secretary at Jackson State Bank in Maquoketa for
many years.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church, the quilting club at the church,
and Roadrunners Camping group. Shirley enjoyed painting, traveling, crafting,
and cooking for her family.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Louis "Bud" Eckelberg of Maquoketa;
a son-in-law, Ron Hankemeier of Maquoketa;
3 grandchildren, Jefferson of Minneapolis, MN, Joshua of Champaign, IL,
and Amanda of Maquoketa; brothers & sisters-in-law, Don Eckelberg, Eugene (Barbara) Eckelberg, Marjorie Boell, Vivian Roe and Eloise (Harry) Rubel; nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Dixie Hankemeier.

Shirley R. Eckelberg, 79 of Maquoketa, died Friday, September 18, 2009,
at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque.
