John A. Snyder was born April 12, 1927, east of Monmouth, Iowa,
to George and Edna Pearl (McMullen) Snyder. John was baptized and
confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He graduated from Onslow High School
in 1945 and entered the Army in 1945, serving as an MP in Europe,
and was honorably discharged in 1947. He married Laura Dirks on
October 10, 1949, in Des Moines, Iowa.
He owned and operated Snyder Plumbing & Heating in Onslow for 45 years.
He was a member of Zion American Lutheran Church and a 63 year member
of the American Legion Wyoming Post #259. He served on the Onslow town council for 34 years and was a volunteer fireman for many years.
He assisted in developing Chamberlain Park. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, woodworking, bowling, and always had time for his grandchildren.

John is survived by his wife, Laura Snyder of Onslow;
his children, Dr. Tom (LuAnne) Snyder of Bettendorf,
Nancy Snyder Gile of Onlsow,
Cindy (Mike) Inglis of Wyoming,
Scott (Sheryl) Snyder of Monticello &
Dan (Linda Kirsch) Snyder of Anamosa;
18 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and expecting 4 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Clayton & Raymond.

John A. Snyder, 82, of Onslow, Iowa, died Wednesday morning,
November 25, 2009, at Silvercrest in Anamosa.

He will be missed dearly by those close to him.
