Kay M. Schwenker was born December 20, 1953, in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Don and Bertha (Campbell) Schwenker. She was a 1972 graduate of Maquoketa Community Schools and the Chicago School of Floral Design several years later. Kay married Sandy (Ellis) Manuel, April 12, 1975 at the First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa, Iowa. Kay had worked primarily in the floral industry during her adult life as a floral designer and display artist. She worked for Bob The Florist, owned and operated Katydid Flowers for 8 years, and was a member of the RonAnn's Floral Shoppe family for many years. Her love and appreciation of beauty extended to all walks of her life and she treated everyone with her contagious joy and enthusiasm. Her greatest loves were her family, friends and her work. Her zest for life was contagious and carried over to all who knew her. Her participation in community affairs included the Hurstville Interpretive Center, Maquoketa School events and the Peace Pipe Players. She was always quick to volunteer her many talents to ensure the success of everything she participated in. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Maquoketa.

Kay is survived by her husband, Sandy Manuel of Maquoketa; two daughters, Keeley (and Chad) Curoe of Bernard, and Mattie (and Otmane) Benjilany of Cedar Rapids; one step-son, Lee (and Julie) Manuel of Cabot, Arkansas; one sister, Mary Ann (and Jerry) Heinzel of Maquoketa, and three brothers, Tom (and Karen) Schwenker, Richard (and Lucinda) Schwenker and Jerry (and Laureen) Schwenker, all of Maquoketa; one granddaughter, Iris Benjilany; three step-grandsons, Harrison, Baxter and Tucker Manuel, and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Kay M. Manuel, 56, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died Thursday, January 14, 2010, at her home following a six month battle with cancer.
